LEIGH RMI hope to find themselves in the top half of the Conference for the first time this season if they can beat Dover tomorrow.

Things are finally looking up at the Hilton Park club after a disastrous start to the season and the Railwaymen will be looking to build on last week's victory when they slammed five goals past a hapless Scarborough to lift themselves to 12th place.

Once again, they will be meeting a fellow club with financial difficulties of their own. A troublesome two months at the Crabble have seen the club reeling from a lack of revenue and battling to avoid relegation to the Ryman League.

Leigh emerged victorious from both league meetings last year with identical 2-1 scorelines and will feel confident after both Athletic scorers in those meetings are no longer at the club. Prolific striker Joff Vansittart has now joined Farnborough Town, whilst another key player, Simon Beard has moved to Kent rivals Margate.

Having won just three of their nine home games in the league, Leigh will not be brimming with confidence about their form on home soil, but Dover's away record is much more grim. They have managed to score just five times on the road and won just one of nine games in the process.

Nevertheless, Steve Waywell has stated that there is no room in the squad for complacency. Before the start of the season, he said: "To some extent, I am worried about playing teams at the bottom of the league more than those at the top because we raise our game significantly for matches against the Doncasters and Bostons of this division. Teams who are struggling always have the will to win and that is why there is no room for complacency."

RMI face old adversaries Chorley in the Lancashire Cup First Round this Tuesday (13th November) where a number of ex-Hilton Park favourites will be looking to make an impact on Steve Waywell's men. Defenders Simon Kay and Mark Schofield could line up for the Unibond First Division squad at Victory Park, as well as midfielder Peter Smyth and strikers Andy Mason and David Eatock. All will have a point to prove against their former boss.
