IT seems Civic Observer's intellectual process allows only for gratuitous insults rather than consideration of facts (Yours Truly, Nov 1).

First, the proposal for Radcliffe is not a museum in the traditional sense but for a combined museum and restaurant with traditional market facility. The draft plans are readily available so why not consult them?

Second, council tax in Bury is not above average. Indeed, by whatever method of comparison is used, either band D property or average per house, Bury is very much below both regional and national averages.

Third, parking charges in Bury, and remember they only apply in Bury town centre, not the smaller districts, are certainly not "two or three times higher than other towns in Greater Manchester".

COUNCILLOR

JOHN BYRNE,

leader of the council.
