North West Counties Under 14s
Blackpool Scorpions 34 Royton Tigers 4
THIS was the second meeting of these two teams within two weeks with Royton winning the first encounter by 10-6.
But the Scorpions juniors got revenge big style in very windy but dry conditions. Skipper Scott Marsden scored the first two tries and with Carl Eastwood converting the first, it gave the Scorpions a 10-0 lead. Tom Simpkins was the next to score after a great weaving run. Eastwood converted to make it 16-0.
After concerted pressure from the Tigers they went over in the corner for a try.
Hooker Carl Reynolds then scooted over under the posts from dummy half and with Eastwood converting it gave the Scorpions a half-time lead of 22-4.
With the wind behind their backs, the Royton side hammered the Scorpions line for the first ten minutes of the half, but the Scorpions defence was magnificent. They weathered the storm and Tom Simpkins went on a 40 metre run to score a magnificent try. Shortly after he scored another try to complete his hat-trick.
David Kirby was making his debut and he scored a good try after a strong run down the wing. Another excellent team performance by the Scorpions juniors who are improving each week.
