A VENUE with a difference attracted another good turnout at the latest monthly meeting of the Bury Business Club.

Wheeldon Brothers Waste Ltd hosted an evening which included information on various business opportunities, as well as networking time.

Now in its third generation, the family firm was founded more than 30 years ago and has grown to employ some 17 staff with around 20 wagons and other waste disposal machinery available to service clients' needs. The two generations of the current management team explained some of the complexities of landfill tax, hazardous waste disposal and tip licences, as well as the service factor through which the company aims to differentiate itself from competitors.

Other speakers at the meeting included Tony Minshall from Business Access and David Stott from the Bury Enterprise Loan Fund.

Both described offers of low-cost business support opportunities available to Bury businesses undertaking specific projects, including start-up, expansion or relocation.

In a similar vein, Ray Frew of Learning Strategies highlighted the need for systematic and well-planned project management and outlined some of the support available in this area.

Other topics of discussion included development opportunities at the Bolton Institute: e-commerce and IT events (Bury Business.Network and UK online for Business) and subjects for Business Club meetings coming up during 2002.

The next and final meeting of this year will be the joint dinner and dance together with BuryBusiness.Network at the Red Hall Hotel on November 29.

Tickets are selling fast. Details about the event and how to join the Bury Business Club are available from Kay Gregson at Bolton and Bury Chamber on 0845 601 6010 (fax: 01204 363212).
