"WE ain't done nothing yet" ... that's the warning Shakers boss Andy Preece has issued to his players after Wednesday's cracking 3-0 demolition of big-spending Cardiff City.

The manager was as pleased as anyone at the win but has been quick to point out that Bury are still in the relegation zone and need to get out of it fast.

Wednesday night's win lifted Bury above Wrexham and Northampton Town (who Bury play on Sunday, kick off 3pm) but there is still much work to be done.

"It's a step in the right direction," said Preece. "But we've done nothing yet. The Cardiff result was a good result and that's all it is. We haven't achieved anything.

"It's a massive game against Northampton on Sunday.

"Sure we'll enjoy the Cardiff result, we deserve to because we've had enough bad times. But we will quickly get focused on Sunday because that is a big one."

If Bury do beat Northampton on Sunday it will a huge boost to their hopes of pulling away from the relegation zone.

Preece's aim is to be clear of trouble by Christmas and - after the last few home games - that looks a real possibility.

"That's three home wins on the bounce, scored six and let one in," pointed out the Bury boss. "It is a good basis to build from and it is important we keep that run going.

"We've been written off by certain people but I've always stayed confident."

While it's important not to get carried away, Bury certainly turned in what was probably their best performance of the season in midweek and given the fact that NINE players were under the age of 23, it bodes well.

The youngsters will certainly need to be on-form against Northampton because three points is vital.

The Cobblers, under new manager Kevin Broadhurst, are just as desperate as Bury for the points.

Broadhurst watched Bury beat Cardiff and was impressed by what he saw. Striker Jamie Forrester is the main threat to the Shakers backline. He was top scorer last season with 19 goals and has hit the back of the net five times this campaign.
