AN Atherton man appeared before magistrates accused of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop and perverting the course of justice.
On Monday morning Simon Christopher Baxter, 33, of Spa Road, Hag Fold, went before magistrates in Wigan.
He is accused of causing the death of Robert Huyton by dangerously driving a Vauxhall Astra on Cross Street on 27 October.
Baxter is also accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice. He is accused of leaving the fatal road traffic accident, driving several miles and then setting fire to the vehicle, failing to stop after the accident and failing to report the accident within 24 hours of its occurrence.
Magistrates granted bail providing Baxter does not enter the Leigh and Bolton area except for court appearances and legal matters.
A committal date was set for November 27 at Bolton Crown Court.
