PUBGOERS put their nerves to the test on a ghost-busting outing to raise money for charity.

Twenty-five 'volunteers' from the Space housing association, which has schemes in Blackburn, Accrington, Clitheroe, Burnley and Pendle, took a trip to the Bull's Head pub in Swinton, Manchester, to see for themselves if rumours about it being haunted were true.

The brave team set up camp and stayed there overnight, entertained by tarot card readers while brushing up on their ghost-busting skills.

Stephen Jepson, chairman of Glenfield Playsafe Residents' Association in Blackburn, said: "We'd heard a lot of tales about the pub and thought that it would be fun to find out whether there was any truth in the rumours.

"There's a ghost that's supposed to haunt the pub and church nearby but it didn't appear.

"At one point, though, all the lights in the pub went off.

"We asked a paranormal expert who had come along -- he wasn't sure what it was but then someone found that the lights had tripped, which was a bit disappointing . . ."
