THE parents of an 18-month old boy who died at Alder Hey Children's Hospital today revealed what they would buy with if they are successful in their claim for damages -- a headstone for Jake.

Keira McGeough and Wayne Knight, of Leicester Road, Blackburn, have launched legal action against the Royal Liverpool Children's Trust after their son Jake died at Alder Hey in July.

Health bosses admitted this week that staff negligence "caused" or "substantially contributed" to the youngster's death. Two female nurses could face criminal charges over the incident and have been interviewed by Merseyside Police.

A file is currently being prepared for the Crown Prosecution Service.

The admission by Trust bosses means Keira and Wayne will not have go through the courts in their claim for damages.

Today Keira said although the money would not bring Jake back, it would bring dignity. The 24-year-old, who has three other children, said: "One of the first things we are going to get is a headstone. At the moment there is a vase and some flowers, but we could not afford a proper headstone.

"It will make things complete. It's the least he deserves."

Keira said the one she has seen would cost her in the region of £1,500.

Jake was laid to rest at Pleasington Cemetery after a service at St Joseph's RC Church, in Audley Range, in August.

Two inquests have been opened and adjourned by Liverpool coroner Andre Rebello. Post mortem examinations have been carried out and tests have been carried out on samples taken from Jake's body although the cause of death has still not been established. Jake died on July 8 after being transferred to Alder Hey from Blackburn's Queens Park Hospital where Keira and Wayne took him with a suspected chest infection.
