JAMES Pullen was the hero of the day as Pool built on last week's draw against Stoke with an important 1-0 victory over Swindon at Bloomfield Road.

The Pool keeper saved an injury time penalty to preserve a Pool clean sheet and ensure Danny Coid's 3rd minute goal was the only one of the game.

After the victory, Pool manager Steve McMahon wasn't entirely satisfied with his side's performance against his former club.

"We can never have a comfortable 1-0 win, I thought we had a great start for us and we could have added to the total but we didn't," he said.

"We dropped a bit deeper in the second half, we weren't patient, we normally pass it better than that and switch it, today I was a bit disappointed with our retention of the ball."

But nevertheless as the Blackpool boss pointed out, the three points were all that were important in the end, "It was important we got the win, it is a good result for us.

"It moves us into the top half of the table, that's a good bonus for the lads, they've worked hard over the last few weeks with lots of games and lots of injuries.

"Tommy Jaszczun was great at centre half, Hillsy did well, Coidy was great again so, there were a lot of pluses today."

Coid indeed was excellent today, not putting a foot wrong all game and was unlucky when Martin Bullock beat him to the man of the match award.

For it was Coid who scored the early and only goal of the game in an excellent solo effort from the young full back.

After receiving the ball on the edge of the box, Coid took advantage of the hesitating Swindon defence to cut inside and place the ball past the Swindon keeper and into the back of the net.

Swindon didn't look dangerous in the first half and the closest the away side got was a header over the ball from Guiliano Grazioli.

Pool had to wait until just before the hour mark in the second half for their closest attempt at getting a second half.

Richie Wellens, who had a solid game in his first start since injury let fly with a curling shot only to be denied by an excellent save.

With just under 20 minutes remaining, Brett Ormerod had the ball in the back of the net for Pool only for the linesman disallowing the goal for offside following Bullock's through ball.

But just as Danny Coid's early goal looked good enough for the points, Stephen Caldwell felled Eric Sabin in the box and the referee awarded Swindon a penalty in the dying seconds.

It looked certain as if this was going to be another of those 'points lost' encounters but Pullen had other ideas.

The Pool keeper guessed right and saved Danny Invincibles penalty which was virtually the last kick of the game.

A precious three points for Blackpool and with Ian Hughes close to fitness, things could be on the up for Seasiders.
