COLLEGE MESSAGE: Ours is the Community College for the borough of Burnley. That means we are committed to providing a local service for everyone who can benefit.

We pride ourselves on having a wide range of programmes at many levels so there is something for everyone.

We are also committed to pushing for the highest standards to give our students the best possible chance of success.

NUMBER OF STUDENTS: We provide education and training for 11,000 local people each year.

Some 1,100 of these are young people aged 16-18 who are on full-time programmes with a further 250 young people on work-based training.

We have more than 500 students studying on higher education programmes in Burnley through our partnership with the University of Central Lancashire.

WHERE DO THEY COME FROM: The bulk of our students come from Burnley and Padiham, which is as it should be given our local role.

However, quite a number come from neighbouring areas of Pendle, Rossendale and Yorkshire.

STAR STUDENTS: All our students are star pupils and when they come to Burnley College we aim to help them achieve their full potential.

Obviously with our excellent pass rates this year we have very successful students including Laura Scaife, previously a student at Ivy Bank High School, who came to Burnley College to complete her A-levels. She achieved outstanding results by getting straight A's.

Another student who achieved a high success rate was Katherine Harrison, an ex-Fisher More High School pupil, who achieved three straight A-levels in Psychology, English and Law.

An ex-student is currently a 2BR DJ -- Simon Brierley came from Barden High School, where he achieved 10 GCSEs, joined Burnley College and accomplished five A-levels before continuing on to the University of Manchester to complete a BSc.
