LANCASHIRE Probation Board will meet next week to review plans to run more treatment programmes for offenders in order to stop them going on to commit further crime.
They will be asked to approve these plans by the National Probation Service in Lancashire for how probation services will be delivered throughout the country for the year from April 2002 - 2003.
Probation's role is to enforce community sentences and the service's overall target is to cut re-offending rates by five per cent by 2004 by using "What Works" methods with offenders to prevent re-offending.
The board meeting will be held in Cleveleys as part of its outreach to local communities.
It meets regularly in public and since it was formed in April last year, has met incommunity centres in Preston, Blackburn, Lancaster, Burnley and Chorley.
The board's aim is to enable people to find out more about the work of the service and ask questions on any matters of concern.
