STAFF at Pendle Citizens Advice Bureau have warned people to be careful when tempted by credit offers such as 'Buy now, pay later' or 'nothing to pay until next year'.

Pendle CAB's Money Advice Unit joined forces with the Office of Fair Trading to promote the National Consumer Watchdog's Keep Debt Under Control campaign.

A spokesman for the bureau said: "We at Pendle Citizens Advice Bureau wanted to take this opportunity to remind people what to look out for when considering taking out credit so that hopefully they won't be counting the cost for years to come."

Key tips on how to avoid debt traps include:

Shop around for the lowest rate and compare terms.

Read the terms and conditions of any agreement

Interest free credit deals can work to your advantage as long as you pay off the remaining balance by the time the interest free period expires

Compare the lenders and APRs
