RADCLIFFE Boro's game at Stocksbridge PS was a weather-victim at the weekend which allowed Harrogate Town - with a 1-0 home win against third in the table Leek Town - to take over top spot in the Unibond League Division One.

Ramsbottom United came back from a half time deficit to win 2-1 at Congleton Town in the NWCL Division One. Trailing to a converted penalty after only five minutes the Rams gradually picked up momentum towards the interval but failed to convert their chances. The leveller came from David Yorke-Robinson, his eighth goal in eight games, and the winner from Russell Brierley with a peach of a header from man of the match Jamie Taylor's driven corner.

Two goals down at the break and with two men sent off surprisingly wasn't an unusual scenario around here on Saturday afternoon. The first forty five minutes at the Reebok Stadium were mirrored-imaged at Crilly Park in Atherton LR's home Division One clash with Glossop North End.

The visitors scored on 25 and 28 minutes with Rovers problems multiplied when Barry Massay was red carded for an altercation with a spectator and Anthony Smith followed for abuse to a referees assistant.

Undeterred LR reorganised and stoutly pushed forward only to be denied by a string of fine saves from the Glossop number one.

It was obviously going to take something special to beat him and Chris Powell produced it on 63 minutes with a thunderous effort. Unfortunately Glossop broke to score the winner on 70 minutes.

Atherton Colls took the lead on 16 minutes in the game at Nantwich Town but were hit by goals either side of the interval in a 2-1 defeat. Ryan Cain was the Colls scorer but it was keeper David Johnson who was the star of the show against a side next to bottom in the listing.

"We haven't played a competitive game since December 9 and it showed," said Colls press man Frank Anderson.
