TWO pub regulars had a close shave down at their local.

Don Ellison, aged 49, of Central Drive, Bury, parted with his hair and the moustache that has been his pride and joy for the past 30 years to raise cash for two charities.

His stepdaughter's boyfriend Andy Carty, aged 29, also dared to bare his scalp to the cold winter winds at the fund-raiser at the New Inn in Walmersley Road, Bury.

The two raised cash for Fairfield Hospital Baby Care Unit and Macmillan Nurses.

Organiser Stephanie Towers said: "We were winding Don up one night about getting rid of his moustache. He said he would do it as long as it was for charity."

After the shave Andy said: "I feel a bit cold. And with his hair and moustache gone we keep telling Don he looks like Uncle Fester from the Addams Family!"

Filby's hairdressers in Bury gave the short cuts free of charge and the pub laid on a buffet and raffle prizes.

Two other regulars had their head and legs shaved. More than £300 was raised in total.
