WHAT makes Walt Meadows (Letters, January 3) think that my earlier criticism of the Tory track record on railways is praise for Labour? He ignored the fact that I did not absolve present or past administrations of neglect.

I'm glad heMr Meadows agrees transport is a shambles. It wasn't Labour who privatised rail and even though the concept had and still has some merit, it was rushed and ill-thought out.

The short-term quick fix was fatally flowed. What was needed was priority given to long-term objectives to produce the infrastructure to support a modern and quality service.
