HEAVY rain across the county caused flooding of roads and some homes -- and forecasters warned of more wet weather to come.

Areas in East Lancashire worst affected by the downpours were the Ribble Valley and Colne and Barrowford areas where rain brought heavy flooding on roads and difficult driving conditions.

The Environment Agency said flood warnings were in place for Ribchester and areas of the Ribble Valley near the River Ribble.

A spokesman added: "Heavy rain has brought some problems in these areas with rising water levels and some roads being flooded. More flooding is certainly possible in these areas and people should be prepared and aware of rising water levels."

Police said there had been problems on the roads especially in Colne, Barrowford, Clitheroe and Whalley.

Fire crews from Blackburn were called out to two houses in Wilpshire last night after reports of light flooding.

Residents in Barnoldswick, Earby and Laneshawbridge were also hit by floods and a number of motorists had to be rescued from Keighley Road , Laneshawbridge, at about 2am.

The weather forecast for the next two days is further wet weather across the county with drier conditions expected by Wednesday.
