A YOUNG adventurer only needs another £1,600 to make his trip later this month to Borneo possible.

Andrew Thorley, 22, of Healdwood Close, Burnley flies out on April 29 and has two weeks of jungle training before carrying out three months of conservation work on the trip organised by the charity Trekforce.

The Geography graduate will then spend the remainder of his five and a half-month adventure teaching children English in schools in the Kelabit Highlands of North Sarawak. For two and a half months of his stay he will also get to stay with the family of a local tribe and live their lifestyle.

But he is also looking forward to seeing the unique wildlife of the region, which includes monkeys, bears, elephants and lizards in a mountainous environment with a number of rainforests.

Andrew, who is currently working as a barman at Burnley Mechanics, said if he does not raise the remaining £1,600 of the £5,000 he needs to raise to finance his trip he will have to make up the difference out of his own pocket.

Local businesses including Warburtons at Burnley and BMW at Accrington have provided some sponsorship for the trip and Andrew has organised quizzes and raffles himself. He said he had Blackburn-based PR company Richard Slater PR to thank for setting him up with business sponsors, including his biggest contributor Wilkinsons whose head office has donated £1,000.

Andrew said he hoped the trip would be a life-changing experience.
