SCHOOLCHILDREN throughout Lancashire are being given the chance to win coveted tickets for the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

To win, pupils are being asked to take up the 'Ticket Challenge' and demonstrate what the Commonwealth Games means to them through the use of music and dance, art and design, writing, video or photography.

The tickets are being given away by United Utilities -- the provider of water and electricity for the North West -- in conjunction with the online commonwealth games curriculum pack 2002 - an interactive resource for teachers and pupils based around the games.

Phil Birchinall, the Games' ccp 2002 co-developer said: "Schools can use anything from a hand painted poster advertising the Games to a choreographed routine celebrating the diversity of traditional dance in the Commonwealth, or a photograph highlighting the energy of a sport to a poem about lawn bowls. Be creative -- the judges are looking for spirited and energetic responses."

There are a total of 800 tickets up for grabs. The competition is open to schools and education groups who will be awarded approximately 25 tickets each.
