STAFF and pupils at a before and after-school club in Barnoldswick are celebrating after a glowing Ofsted report congratulated everyone involved in running the service.

An inspection of the club at Coates Lane Primary School was carried out and information about the service provided was gathered from parents whose children use it.

Questionnaires were given out at the club and 21 of a possible 60 were returned, which was accepted as reasonable, allowing for a meaningful report to be compiled.

The report said the overall response from parents regarding the quality of the scheme was extremely positive.

From the feedback, 95 per cent of parents said they were 'satisfied' with the activities offered while the others said they were 'fairly satisfied'; 95 per cent would definitely recommend the club to others while the rest would probably do so.

All the parents stated they were satisified with the building and play equipment provided.

Manager Jennifer Hodgson said: "We are delighted because we only opened in January 2000. We got a £25,000 Lottery grant to start with and were able to buy a lot of new equipment.

"But starting up wasn't a straightforward task and a lot of hard work went into it.

"We were very happy with the report because it's not often you get an Ofsted report with no action points to be followed up.

"The inspector said it felt a happy environment and the children and staff were comfortable. She said the general ethos of the school was encouraging with children having fun but learning at the same time."

The club operates Monday to Friday, between 8am and 9am and 3.15pm and 6pm, during term time only. It is run by a committee of teachers, governors, parents and employed out-of-school staff.
