Burnley boss, Stan Ternent, said: "WE gave ourselves a mountain to climb in the first half, we didn't perform but I can't explain why. It was a very poor show, very poor by our standards.

"The second half was better but by then it was too late. I don't criticise my players in public and no matter what happens they have done extremely well this season.

"They got another goal just before the break and at 3-0 down that gave us an even bigger mountain to climb.

"I don't know whether they were sitting back in the second half or we played better but we got one in the end.

"But I don't criticise my players in public and no matter what happens they have still done extremely well this season."

Mariners player boss Paul Groves

"THE players have been magnificient since we took over this club on December 28. They have given me everything they have got and the win was all about them.

"We had an excellent start and that was something we had spoken about. We knew that if results went our way we would have a chance of securing safety.

"We have been a threat at home and we have scored a number of goals. The movement of Bradley Allen and Michael Boulding was outstanding and I am glad the decision to play them both paid off."
