A BLACKBURN teenager is set for a starring role in the Commonwealth Games this summer after landing a job as a volunteer.

Scott Bowkley, 18, will be at most of the major events during the games, in Manchester, after undergoing a series of 'pre-volunteer' courses, in Blackburn.

Scott, of Brownhill, Blackburn, has already met Prime Minister Tony Blair, will be in the company of royalty when Prince Edward and Sophie attend a lunch in Manchester.

Scott has learning difficulties and said his success at securing his 'dream job' was thanks to Blackburn with Darwen Council. The former Blackamoor pupil signed on to the council's Passport 2000 scheme, launched in the summer of that year, where his interest in sport took off.

Scott's success was toasted by Kate Hollern, executive member for culture leisure and sport for Blackburn with Darwen Council, who said: "I am delighted to hear of Scott's success. This is an excellent illustration of what can be achieved through sheer determination."
