CRAIG Short knows all about relegation scraps after he spent the best part of four years fighting fires at Everton.

Tomorrow, he returns to the scene of some of his closest scrapes as a professional for the first time in three years.

But this time it's Rovers rather than the Toffees who could be wearing the furrowed brows as the spectre of relegation continues to hover over Ewood Park.

Everton -- rejuvenated under new boss David Moyes -- are already assured of their place in the Premiership after a dramatic improvement in form over the last four weeks.

But for Rovers fans the agony could yet be prolonged if Ipswich manage to beat Manchester United tonight.

It's an all too familiar scenario for Short who flirted with the drop on three of the four seasons he had on Merseyside.

But he is confident Rovers have enough quality about them to go to Goodison and win should Ipswich force the relegation battle into extra time.

"I wasn't too surprised to see Ipswich get something against Middlesbrough which keeps it going," said Short.

"But maybe Manchester United can get something down there today which would mean we'd be going to Goodison in a relaxed mood.

"However, if we have to get something, then I'm sure we can.

"For the last month or so, we've all thought we'd have to get something against Everton so we are more than prepared for it."
