A CLITHEROE club for over-55s will send out 6,000 questionnaires in early May to attract more members and obtain views on new social activities.

The Pendle Club on Lowergate aims to double its 300-strong membership and increase its range of indoor sports and entertainment by surveying most of the homeowners in Clitheroe.

It costs £3 for a year's subscription to the club, launched in the late 1940s and originally named the Clitheroe Old People's Welfare Committee.

The club provides card games, dancing, snooker, darts, keep fit, computer courses and a luncheon club- most of which cost just £1 per session.

Adult education, bingo, a cinema club and a skittles alley are some of the activities mentioned in the survey and Brian Haig, Chairman of the Pendle Club, said he would try to provide them all if there was a demand.

"We want to find out what people want from us to make sure we are catching the mood of the day," said Mr Haig.
