THE season may have ended disappointingly early for Burnley but top scorer Gareth Taylor is still hoping that he has one more match to play.

"Wales take on Germany at home on May 14 and I would love to be involved again," said Taylor who won his ninth cap as a second half substitute in last month's 0-0 draw with the Czech Republic at the Millennium Stadium.

The return to the international fold delighted the 29-year-old who had been left out of Mark Hughes's squad earlier in the season.

His career best tally of 16 league goals clearly caught the manager's eye and he is hoping that he will not be forgotten this time around.

"I am going away with the lads to play a bit of golf tomorrow but I will keep doing a bit of training to make sure that I am fit for action," he said.

"To be honest my fitness has been pretty good all season and I don't think I would lose a massive amount of edge over a couple of weeks.

"What I have to do is keep ticking over and do what's right.

"Since the match against Coventry City I have been doing a bit at home and that is what I will keep doing.

"I think I did well when I came on against the Czechs and it was another good result for us after the draw with Argentina.

"It was good to do well against decent opposition."

The international call-ups this season have been welcome for a man who had lost his place in the squad and he admitted: "It has been a nice distraction, something different from the league.

"Also it means that I have been doing well for the club because if you are a striker you have to be scoring to get called up."

His last goal of the season was not enough to get the Clarets into the end of season play-offs but it was a timely reminder to Hughes of his ability in the air, especially as he has been forced to sit on the bench.

It was when he came back from international duty, having served a two match suspension, that he lost his place in the starting line-up with Ian Moore and on loan striker David Johnson the chosen pairing in attack.

Having enjoyed a best ever season in attack his one remaining target for this campaign is to break his international duck.

And if he could do that against the Germans in the magnificent Millennium Stadium it would be the perfect tonic after the bitter disappointment of missing the play-offs by one goal.

ONE-TIME Burnley hitman Ian Wright will be coming out of retirement for Tony Adams' testimonial match.

The record-breaking Arsenal hot-shot will put on a Gunners' shirt and line-up alongside current hitman Thierry Henry at Highbury on May 13.

"It is wonderful news for me. Thierry's a World Cup winner after all," said Wright who helped the Clarets into Division One two seasons ago.

Adams said: "I said thanks to Ian for turning out - but he said 'No, it's me who should be thanking you!'"
