A MAN kicked in the door of his mother's home after she refused to give him money to buy drugs.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Gerard Burns had phoned her and said he was coming for money. He did, despite her warning that she would call police.

Burns, 29, of Preston Street, Darwen, pleaded guilty to criminal damage. He was given a conditional discharge for 18 months, must pay £880 compensation and £30 costs.

Neil Standage, prosecuting, said that when Burns arrived at his mother's home her friend told him to go away and refused to open the door. He then kicked the door until he broke one of the double glazed panels.

John Dewhurst, defending, said Burns was an addict and had needed money for drugs.

"He apologises for his behaviour and accepts that he will have to pay for the damage he caused," said Mr Dewhurst.

"Since this incident he has been in touch with the community drugs team and is receiving controlled units of methadone".
