A NEW face at Hyndburn Council headquarters will have the job of keeping residents informed about what is going on in the borough.

Cathy Tattersall, who has just been appointed senior marketing and communications officer, is no stranger to the area, as visitors to the Information Centre will already recognise her.

Cathy's previous role as tourism officer involved promoting Hyndburn to visitors and her most recent success was publicising the Lancashire Food Festival which attracted 6,000 visitors to Accrington Town Hall in March.

Her new role will be to promote the council's work and keep people informed about council initiatives as well as encouraging greater involvement from residents.

She will also put together a variety of brochures, newsletters and leaflets as well as updating the council's new website.

She said: "Hyndburn has lots going on this year. For instance the forthcoming opening of the cinema and bowling complex, the Market redevelopment, the bedding in of the new streamlined decision making process based on the Leader and Cabinet.

"There is also the continued successes of the work of the eight area councils to name a but a few. So you can see things are happening and it's my job to make sure people know what's going on.

"I'm really looking forward to my new role and feel that Hyndburn has lots to shout about."

Cathy, who was educated in Hyndburn at the former Paddock House Convent Grammar School in Oswaldtwistle, lives in Rossendale with her partner, Peter, who is a builder, and her two children, Daniel, 17, and Louise, 15.

One of her first projects will be the new Hyndburn Residents' Guide for 2002/3, due to be published mid June.
