LOCAL MPs have appealed to Lancashire County Council to drop plans to shut 35 care homes when they consider the result of a public consultation exercise later this month .

Gordon Prentice, Greg Pope and Nigel Evans are pressing county leaders to drop the scheme which would leave just one home for the elderly in each borough.

The consultation period ends on Friday, June 14 with a meeting of the county council cabinet on July 1 to take a decision which will be announced three days later.

Pendle Labour MP Mr Prentice said: "The county's proposals to close 35 care homes for the elderly has been well and truly rejected by people of East Lancashire."
