DEDICATED volunteer Jim McGinnis has seen his commitment to the Mosses Community Centre in Bury matched by his employers, who donated £12,000 to the club.

The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of United Parcel Service, made the generous gesture to help refurbish the centre and extend its services.

Mr McGinnis, a trustee of the Mosses Community Association (MCA), spends around 30 hours of his spare time every month helping to develop the centre in Cecil Street.

He has been responsible for organising family-based social evenings for the 800 members, and running weekly bingo sessions.

The community centre was established in the early 1970s and is a registered charity run by the MCA. It was the first purpose-built community centre in Bury and has become integral to the provision of services to the elderly, the young and physically and mentally disabled members of the community.

Director of the centre, Peter Firth said: "The money will be very useful and will be used to benefit all the 40 user groups at the club."

The money from United Parcel Services, for whom Mr McGinnis works as a lead driver, will be mainly used to decorate the centre and to buy computer equipment for use by its members.
