Bury Hospice will be hoping for some bright ideas next month when it encourages the townsfolk to join its fundraising campaign "Go Yellow 2002".

The campaign sees a nationwide series of fundraising events for the Hospice movement with a yellow theme which is the traditional colour of the movement and that of its main symbol, the sunflower.

Money raised locally will go to Bury Hospice, based in Dumers Lane, Radcliffe.

June 21, the longest day of the year, has been branded "Yellow Day" when a host of fun events are expected to be held around the borough.

Shoppers will be able to make donations the following day, June 22, when cash collectors will be in Bury town centre, distributing yellow ribbons and sunflowers.

Anyone is welcome to take part throughout the month of June, holding as many weird and wacky yellow-themed ideas as they want. Suggestions include wearing a yellow dress for a day, a sponsored lemon-eating extravaganza, and sitting in a bath of custard!

With events coinciding with the Jubilee this year, some activities have been given a distinctively "royal" treatment.

Bury Hospice aims to hold a 'crown jewels amnesty', auctioning off old items of jewellery donated by members of the public, and is encouraging fundraisers to raise pound coins attached to a measuring chart of "golden yards".

The sky is the limit, as long as it involves something yellow, say organisers.

Anyone needing sponsor forms, letters of authority, boxes of ribbons and sunflowers, collection boxes, posters, or advice, can contact the Hospice's fundraising office at 89 The Rock, Bury, telephone 7971748.
