RESIDENTS in Cliviger were left out of the Queen's Jubilee celebrations because of funding problems for the village's proposed party.

A community party had been planned yesterday but had to be cancelled until further notice because an application to the council for a grant to help with funding had been put in too late.

Cliviger with Worsthorne councillor Kevin Robinson, said residents were left feeling disappointed at being left out of the celebrations.

He said: "People in the village were expected to attend a massive party to commemorate the Queen's 50 years on the throne.

"People are naturally disappointed with the news, but there is to be a meeting tomorrow about organising a celebration later.

"We found out about two weeks ago that the celebrations could not go ahead and people were informed accordingly."

A spokeswoman for the Cliviger Community Association Cracker said there were many factors that led to the cancellation of the event.

She said: "Events such as this take a lot of organisation, so it is disappointing to find out that it cannot go ahead.

"The venue had to be changed, poor ticket sales and lack of funding all led to us having to cancel the event. We gave all the money back to the people who had bought the tickets."

A Cliviger resident said: It is a shame that we couldn't have had a huge party, but it will just mean that we will have to have our celebrations later than everyone else."

Nobody at Burnley Council was available for comment.
