EAST Lancashire turned out in force for a magnificent display to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee weekend.

Hundreds of street parties and events brought together young and old as communities across the region paid tribute to the monarch's 50 years on the throne.

Streets, Cricket grounds, parks and village greens were just some of the venues decked out with flags and bunting for the events which went ahead in defiance of the poor Bank Holiday weather.

Among those celebrating at one of the region's biggest events was Jean Starkie who organised Rawtenstall's Bands in the Park at Whitaker Park in the town.

She said: "It has been wonderful to see so many people coming together to enjoy the weekend's events. Things like this take a lot of organising, but it pays off in the end when you see thousands of people enjoying themselves."

Fairground rides, music and wildlife displays drew the crowds to the Jubilee Fun Day in Marsden Park, Nelson.

Organiser Margaret Keighley said the day had been a huge success. She added: "It has been fantastic, everyone has had a really good time and there was a really good turn-out."

The weather couldn't put a dampener on celebrations in Foulridge with many of the day's events held in the village hall, including stalls and children's games. The village green was also in use with country dancing and a fun run.

Chairman of the parish council, Julie Mallalieu, said: "We had planned to hold some events inside in case the weather wasn't on our side so the rain didn't affect our celebrations at all.

"It was a wonderful day for everyone."

Other celebrations included a party for the elderly at Hodge House Community Centre in Reedyford Road, Nelson, an afternoon garden party in Adamson Street, Padiham.

And an evening Jubilee Party, organised by the Haslingden Soroptimists, was held at Haslingden Cricket Club.

A day of fun was held at Ramsbottom County Show in Nuttall Park.
