PLANS to build an agricultural workers' bungalow have been turned down to avoid urban sprawl in rural areas.

The application for the building at Dunnockshaw Farm, Burnley Road, Dunnockshaw, was refused by Burnley Council development control after members decided not to approve it to prevent setting a precedent for other applications.

Janet Dixon, for the applicants, said: "It has been a family-run business for many years. They produce their own beef, lamb and milk at the farm which spans three generations.

"The owners try to extend their services to help the community by providing their land for car parking for local residents.

"The family live in cramped conditions and would like to build another bungalow."

But councillors and planning officers said they found the plans unacceptable because of the location.

Planning officer Paul Skinner said: "This doesn't justify another workers' dwelling on the site. There is already a large agricultural complex at Dunnockshaw and there are other bungalows in the area they could move to."
