A 68-YEAR-OLD Preston cheese firm is set to make a welcome return to one of the country's oldest agricultural shows next month.

Bosses at Singletons Dairy, Preston Road, Longridge, will put two types of their tasty cheeses on the competition table at the Royal Lancashire Show in Chorley.

The three-day event, due to open at Astley Park on July 26, will feature a host of sections from horticulture to shire horses, cheese, honey and local produce.

Of the stalls included in the show, the Lancashire cheese section remains the star of the show with organic, crumbly, smoked and unpasteurised, to name but a few, competing for the judges' approval.

In all, the show will include 17 different sections with something for everyone. In the harvesting section of the show, amateur gardeners from across the North West will be exhibiting the fruits of their labour. Last year this section attracted more than 300 people with a range of flowers, pot plants, vegetables and fruits competing for trophies.

Following a two-year break one of the country's most prestigious show jumping championships is set to return to the show. The National Ladies' Showjumping Championship is expected to attract some of the country's most talented sportswomen with a total £3,000 prize money up for grabs.

As always, the opening day will be Ladies' Day, with prizes for the best dressed women visiting the show -- a feature inspired by the famous Royal Ascot event.
