A GREAT-grandmother was flung from her seat after two young boys threw water bombs at a bus and caused the driver to slam on the brakes.

Caroline Shaw, 77, of Ashton Road, Darwen, said every bone in her body has ached since being sent hurtling along the floor of the bus before ending up under the luggage rack.

The next thing she could remember was being treated by paramedics at the side of the road after she blacked out for several minutes.

She was not taken to hospital, but says she has been to the doctors and left practically bed-bound since the accident last week.

The bus was fitted with CCTV which covers the inside and outside and us company Lancashire United is co-operating with police.

Mrs Shaw was on the Lancashire United 225 bus passing the Park Hotel in Darwen when the driver heard two sudden bangs on the right side of the vehicle.

Two young boys were seen running away and water was spattered on the window.

Mrs Shaw, who has eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, said: "If I thought any of my grandchildren did a thing like that they would certainly be chastised. It wasn't the bus that was damaged, but the passengers inside.

"Had there been any traffic behind the bus there was no way they could have pulled up to avoid ramming into the back of us which could have resulted in a loss of life.

"Since then I have been in very considerable pain and can hardly move my limbs. I ache in every bone. I am in my 70s and don't have very good health as it is."

Graham Mitchell, group communications manager for Blazefield Holding Limited, which owns Lancashire United, said: "There seem to be positive developments with the police. I think the youths seem to be known.

"The bus was fully CCTV fitted so there will be a filmed record of exactly what happened. The company is fully co-operating with the police, and does in any incidents of this kind."
