THE Citizen of May 16 carried a report under the headline of 'What's in a name?' and carried a photo of the 'Jubilee Street' name plate -- and said Preston Council is looking for ideas to commemorate the Jubilee. I feel people should also find links to the name Golden.

South of the River Ribble, the Penwortham by-pass is called 'Golden Way'.

It was renamed to commemorate former County Councillor Dennis Golden who had been chairman of Lancashire County Council's Highways and Transport Committee and who was a champion of mobility for disabled people.

He is one of but a few local people to have a road named after them.

When Dennis Golden sadly died of cancer he had just been adopted as the Labour Party's parliamentary candidate for South Ribble. His successor is David Borrow MP who was also, of course, a former leader of Preston Council.

What's in a name? Lots of links can be found when golden memories and imaginations come into play.
