REGARDING the Jubilee fireworks display at Darwen Tower -- what a load of rubbish! Has this town lost everything to Blackburn now?

We were promised 15 minutes of glorious fireworks and what did we get? -- three minutes of absolute rubbish.

I, like many other parents, kept my children up for this special occasion and they were very disappointed. What happened?

Every year we go to Witton Park, Blackburn, to watch the fireworks display as Darwen has even lost the town's bonfire. So why couldn't we have a good display in Darwen for this special occasion?

What has happened to this town. We never ask for much, but just for once, we expected something better.

T A LLOYD (Mrs), Redearth Road, Darwen.

Footnote: The firework display was not billed as lasting 15 minutes, but as taking place between 10.15pm and 10.30pm approximately. The £5,000 cost of the display was met by local businesses -- Editor.

Wrong priorities?

I SEE Blackburn Cathedral's hierarchy wants a fence to keep the ungodly out, (LET, May 30) perhaps, so they can preach to the well-off and well-behaved in comfort.

Jesus went out into the multitudes to take the word of God to the sinners and less fortunate.

Instead of fencing themselves in, should the Cathedral hierarchy not follow his example?

A SEDGWICK (Mr), Lyndhurst Avenue, Blackburn.

Has the subway been overlooked?

THE subway leading into Penny Street, Blackburn, is a regular target for vandals and has been highlighted by the council for being one of the worst areas in the town for graffiti.

A few months ago the subway was repainted but the stairs are still closed for repair work, but I haven't seen any work done to them yet.

I thought the subway was a quick route to avoid the road traffic. Are the council aware that this job is left undone -- and how much of an inconvenience this is to some people?
