SWINTON coach Phil Veivers admits some of his Lions may be shown the door as he continues to reassess his playing squad.

Despite lying at third-bottom of the Northern Ford Premiership, Swinton's form has picked up since the former St Helens ace took over the reins, with two impressive wins over Whitehaven overshadowing their mauling against Leigh.

But Veivers conceded that he may have to let players go to bring in fresh faces.

"I'm still assessing what I've got here," he said.

"Nearly everyone's had a chance to show me what they can do. At the moment there's no immediate panic and there's not much scope for bringing a lot of players in.

"That will eventually happen and, sadly, a couple will probably have to leave us but they have nothing to worry about at the moment because all the guys are performing well.

"To beat Whitehaven was a good result from our point of view. We had a slack 20 minutes at the beginning but after that it was a good performance from the guys.

"I have only been here for the last two or three games so I can't say how we are progressing overall but I can say it was a vast improvement on the Leigh game. Finally the boys are understanding that a game plan is there to be stuck to."

Certainly no major changes to the playing staff are expected in the next couple of weeks, in which time a move to the Willows to share with Super League outfit Salford City Reds should be complete.

And Veivers claimed leaving their temporary tenancy at Leigh to plant roots elsewhere will only be of benefit to the team.

"It would be nice to have a home instead of every match being an away game," he said.

"That will be a massive bonus when that happens and we can start making a new 'Fortress Swinton.'"

For now, though, The Lions supremo must focus on this week's trip to Barrow and decide on whether to stick to a winning formula or recall a string of players who were unavailable for the clash at the Recreation Ground last week.

Veivers was forced to name himself on the substitutes bench after Mick Nanyn and Rob Gallagher both pulled out at the last minute with stomach bugs, while Lee Hansen missed the game to attend a wedding.

All three should be available for Sunday's Cumbrian clash.

"Barrow at Barrow will no doubt be a really tough game, especially after they put 50 points past Hunslet last week. That's no mean feat," said Veivers.

"They've also got a couple of great half-backs who are creating a lot for them so we will have to be on our toes to cope with them."
