JUBILEE : Bury cinema-goers were being offered the chance by those good folk at the Classic to watch a recording of the Queen's Coronation on the big screen.

FLAG NABBED: Thieves struck twice at a Holcombe Brook firm. A huge Union flag flying at the premises of James Holden and Son Ltd in Bolton Road was stolen on June 5. The flag was returned to the firm to fly for the Jubilee celebrations, but hours later it was stolen again. The firm offered a reward for the return of the flag.

THE FRIARY: The congregation of St George's in Heap Bridge, Bury, enjoyed a most unusual service after a blaze swept through the church. Worshippers held their Sunday service in the dining room of a nearby fish and chip shop.

TAKE COVER: Christopher Latham (12) of Ingham Street, Bury, discovered a grenade in the back yard of a derelict house in Oxford Street. The police were informed and confirmed the detonator was missing from the explosive.

STEALING TIME: A lock-up shop in Ainsworth Road, Bury, was broken into and a quantity of clocks were stolen.
