BURY holidaymakers flying out from Manchester Airport are being urged to bin sharp objects before boarding their flights.
Bins are being put out to allow passengers to discard an assortment of objects such as nail files, penknives and even safety pins from their hand luggage.
Six large wheelie bins are now sited in the airport's Terminals One and Two so that travellers can dump sharp objects.
Since September 11, Government regulations ban any sharp objects in hand luggage.
Security staff at Manchester Airport confiscate 700 sharp objects a day. Since September 11, 170,000 such objects have been confiscated and during the Easter period, 1,200 items were taken in just one day.
To re-inforce the message, the airport has put notices on the web site, put posters up around the check-in desks at all three terminals, posted warnings on TV monitor screens inside the terminals and have 56 staff handing out leaflets to passengers.
