POLICE in Colne are appealing for witnesses following a road accident in which a motorist failed to stop after a collision with a teenager on a bicycle.

The incident happened on Friday at 1.30pm in Albert Road.

Sergeant Rusell Gregory, of Colne Traffic Police, said: "The car turned left from the main road in to Chapel Street and failed to see the pedal cyclist.

"The cyclist braked heavily and was thrown over the handle bars.

"He struck the front of the car which was then driven from the scene.

"We are wanting to hear from anyone with information or who saw the incident."

Cyclist Raymond Layfield, 13, of Tennis Street, Burnley, suffered an injury to his wrist and a grazed knee.

He was taken to Burnley General Hospital but not detained.

The dark blue Vauxhall Astra, driven by a male, was driven in the direction of Shaw Street, leaving the shaken and injured cyuclist lying in the road.
