A GLANCING header from Ahn Jung-hwan in the 78th minute brought the South Koreans back into their game against the USA, and a share of the points.

And the Koreans had a chance to take all three points in the last minute as the ball was rolled into the box but sent high over the bar from six yards out.

Blackburn keeper Brad Friedel had an outstanding game for the Americans and he is content with the number of points the USA have secured, with one more round of games to go in the group stage.

"If someone had said we could have four points going into our final game then I think we would have taken it," said the Blackburn keeper.

"You have to give credit to the Koreans for putting us under so much pressure in the second half."

A goal from US striker Clint Mathis after 24 minutes had silenced the 68,000 capacity crowd at the Daegu stadium as Korea went behind 1-0.

The goal, set up by John O'Brien, came against the run of play and helped to settle a US team that had been rattled to that point, unable to string together many passes against an energetic South Korea team.

Goalkeeper Brad Friedel maintained the US lead in the 40th minute with a spectacular penalty save after Jeff Agoos committed a foul in the box.

The result means Group D is likely to go down to the wire as both sides wait on the out come of the Portugal against Poland match being played in Jeonju later today (KO 12.30pmBST) to see what they have to do in their final games.
