A MAN went to the police station to make a complaint of assault during celebrations of the birth of his second child and ended up in police cells.
Blackburn magistrates heard that he refused to speak to uniformed officers who were leaving the station as he arrived and demanded to speak to a detective.
Thomas Cosgrove, 21, of Hosier Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in the inquiry office. He was granted a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £55 costs.
Wendy Chappell, prosecuting, said Cosgrove became abusive and was clearly drunk.
Kevin Preston, defending, said Cosgrove's second child had been born days before the incident and he had gone for a night with friends. "What started as a good night ended badly," said Mr Preston.
"His new coat was stolen, he was attacked, resulting in the cut to his face, and he went to make a complaint to the police.
"He felt that he got little assistance from the officers he spoke to."
