SHAKERS boss Andy Preece is hoping to silence some of his fiercest critics when he returns to the Racecourse Ground on Saturday writes Chris Hall.

Bury will be looking to build on their 1-1 draw with leaders Hartlepool last week with a win at third-placed Wrexham, where Preece spent two years as a fledgling striker in the early '90s.

But he is first to admit his memories of life in North Wales are not his fondest, after only netting 11 goals in 63 appearances.

And now wants to give the home fans even more reason to offer him a cold reception by taking all three points back to Gigg Lane.

"I didn't play that well there, to be honest, so I'm not so fondly remembered in Wrexham and I always get a bit of stick when I go back there," he confessed.

"It's not been a happy ground for Bury either in recent times. When we won there two years ago it was our first for years but hopefully we can put that right this weekend.

"They are in a position where we want to be, so these are games that we need to win."

To do that Bury will need to put the heaviest shackles they can find on Wrexham striker Andy Morrell, who is enjoying one of the finest spells of his career.

With 11 goals already this season, he is the most prolific goal poacher in the country and must be excited about the prospect of taking on a defence who have yet to register their first clean sheet of the campaign.

"Our main aim has got to be to keep a clean sheet. That's your starting point and guarantees that you at least get a point out of the game," said Preece.

"Andy's flying at the minute and he seems to score in every game, so we have to watch him.

"But they've got more than just Andy Morrell. They have a lot of good players in their squad who we must contain."

Preece has a full-strength squad to choose from, although midfielder David Borley will probably have to wait another week for his first appearance of the season after recovering from a hernia operation only to succomb to a bout of flu.

"David's been ill this week with a bug that's been going around the camp, so he hasn't trained all week," said the Shakers supremo.

"He's our only fitness worry and everybody else is available but I don't think we will be making too many changes.

"We have been changing the team around quite regularly so far to get a look at everyone but we played great for most of the Hartlepool match and I don't expect to make too many alterations."
