THE darker side of life in modern-day Dublin will be brought to life at Darwen Library Theatre tonight when the award-winning play Howie the Rookie takes to the stage.
Compared with the film Trainspotting for its uncompromising language and dark humour, the Rocket Theatre production is the tale of two characters who call the streets of Dublin home.
Local theatregoers may remember the company's last production in Darwen, The Reindeer Monologues, which played to a packed house at the Library Theatre around Christmas time.
Martin Harris, artistic director of Rocket Theatre who also directs the current show, said: "I'm very excited about this latest project, our twenty-first production. Howie the Rookie is gritty, very funny and often moving and I'm delighted that we are able to bring it to audiences for the first time in their own region."
Featuring just two actors -- Padraic McIntyre and Graeme Hawley -- this current production was premiered at Manchester's Library Theatre.
