YOUR story and photographs of Hyndburn councillor David Myles dressing up as a medival knight for his wedding (LET, September 16) prompted me to dig out the poem with which I won first prize in a 1985 competition in which the Lancashire Evening Telegraph was involved with some 10 regional newspapers in various parts of the country.

My prize was a £100-worth of perfumes and an invitation to be at the reading in London of all the winners' poems.

Unfortunately, we had booked a holiday and could not attend.

I named this poem, 'The Knight's return,' which went as follows:

Oh, would that I could woo thee

Thou creature so divine,

To press my lips on they lips,

Mine arms entwine with thine.

Oh, comely wench who lies a-bed

Mine own garb I would doff,

And I would woo thee till the dawn

Could I but get this armour off.
