JOHN COLEMAN has warned his players not to be complacent when they take on bottom-of-the-league Colwyn Bay at the Crown Ground tonight.

Coleman reckons the North Wales strugglers will be going all-out to beat his in-form side, who are still five points clear at the top of the UniBond Premier Division after a flying start to the new campaign.

Colwyn Bay have won just two games this season - and lost 11 - and the Stanley fans may be expecting a goal-fest and easy three points, but Coleman said it may not be that easy.

"Everyone thinks it's a foregone conclusion," he said. "Just because it is top versus bottom but they played well against us earlier in the season and we had to come from behind to win 2-1.

"They put us under pressure and I think they have been a bit unlucky to lose so many and of course when you do start losing the confidence goes.

"But we will be giving them the respect they deserve tonight."

After Saturday's 1-1 draw against Bradford Park Avenue - the Reds had to come from behind to grab a point - Coleman will be hoping his side get back to winning ways and consolidate their five-point lead.

They could extend that lead to eight tonight as Worksop, who are on 28 points having played a game more, have no match. Burscough stay in third after their match against Lancaster was abandoned last night due to floodlight failure.

The Reds have won 10 and drawn three of their 13 games and came from 2-0 down to beat fellow title hopefuls Burscough last Wednesday. They should easily dispose of a poor Colwyn Bay side, but you won't hear John Coleman saying that.

"We are top, they are bottom so they will come here with nothing to lose," he said.

"They'll come and give it a good go and try to nick something."

Full-back Peter Cavanagh is struggling for fitness after missing Saturday's game and winger Russell Payne is definitely out.

Steve Halford has a knock on his ankle and Mike Marsh has a thigh strain. Coleman will check on the progress of the duo before naming his side.

Some fans may be wondering which famous face they might see in the crowd tonight after former Burnley and Sunderland midfielder Kevin Ball turned up to watch the Burscough game last week.

Coleman's attempts to sign the experienced midfielder officially failed at the end of last week when he decided the travelling from his Sunderland home to the Lancashire club would be too much.

But Coleman said the very fact the deal came so close to happening said a lot about the direction in which the Reds were going.

"It would have been nice to see Kevin Ball here but the travelling was a real stumbling block," he said.

"But just to have him interested in coming here is a sign that we are progressing the right way as a club."
