AN McCulloch is in upbeat mood for the new snooker season despite his 5-4 defeat in the LG Cup to Anthony Hamilton.

Victory for the Walton-le-Dale based player would have set up a dream match at the Guild Hall against world number one, 'Rocket' Ronnie O'Sullivan in the second round.

But McCulloch insists he was pleased with the way he played and is looking forward to the rest of the season.

"To be honest I've not given the defeat a scond thought. I'm pleased with way I played and I've got nothing to moan about.

"I put together some good breaks but Anthony jsut pipped me on the day. He's a good friend and I wish him well in the next round.

"At least getting beat gave the time to spend some time some time at home with my wife and family and do some jobs around the house!

"Obviously it's disappointing to be beaten in front of my home crowd but the standard is so high now that every round is tough.

"Even last year's finalist Peter Ebdon didn't make it past the first round this year which shows how tough it is."

Ian who was number 34 in the world snooker rankings at the start of the tournament is now preparing for the British Open in Telford in November.
