A PLANNING application to extend a social club has been passed, despite objections from residents.

A 37-name petition and five letters of objection were submitted to Hyndburn Council's planning department, opposing an application by PFH Leisure to extend Oaklea Club in Whalley Road Accrington by adding a conservatory.

Complainants said the addition would increase noise levels, add to traffic and parking problems and reduce the value of nearby properties.

But the application was passed at yesterday's development services committee meeting.

Brent Clarkson, head of planning, said: "There is an apparent noise problem which \Environmental Health is investigating.

"But this application includes a condition that no music reproduction equipment shall be sited within the conservatory area so it will not make the problem any worse.

"The existing noise problem, if there is one, will continue to be looked at by the Health Department."

The application was passed subject to self-closing mechanisms being fitted on all the doors in the conservatory and the stipulation that no sound systems be installed there.
