BLACKBURN College experts were today telling the Government's Skills Minister, Ivan Lewis, what action needs to be taken to improve the future performance of local businesses East Lancashire.
They joined employers and trainers from across the region at the North West Skills Summit in Warrington.
Mr Lewis heard directly from employers and others about how best to tackle the region's skill shortages and how to develop a world-class workforce.
The results will form part of a government-wide skills strategy and delivery plan to be published in the spring.
The Blackburn College representatives were among a number of academic training providers to attend.
Ivan Lewis said: "Like other regions the North West faces significant skills challenges. In a recent survey here, 25 per cent of employers reported skills gaps where people lack the full proficiency they need for their jobs."
