A MAN who threatening to throw himself from a brewery car park four times in a week has admitted himself into hospital.

Mark Anthony Leggatt, 20, decided to enter Queen's Park Hospital after the latest incident at Thwaites brewery car park.

Leggatt, of St Stephens Avenue, Blackburn, had already appeared in court on October 4 when he admitted a breach of the peace and was bound over in the sum of £50 for 12 months.

Police said that on four occasions last week they found Leggatt standing on the edge of the roof-top car park above Thwaites brewery threatening to throw himself 35ft to the ground.

Each time trained police negotiators spent four hours trying to talk him down, with fire and ambulance crews on stand-by.

Inspector Stuart Bruce said Leggatt went to Blackburn police station on Friday and later admitted himself Queens Park Hospital.

He said he was pleased that Leggatt had taken the decision to seek help.

Insp Bruce said: "It's clear that he has a problem and for everybody's sake it's the right decision. He gets himself drunk and then tries to seek attention.

"He does clearly need some help."

A spokesman for Thwaites said the brewery leases the car park from the council and could not comment on whether security could be improved.

A Blackburn with Darwen Council spokesman, said: "This is a personal tragedy and it is not appropriate for us to comment at this time."
